Company's engineer for the purchase of their steamers, it has been decided to sell them by public auction on 24th July. Six thousand shares in the new Colonial Bank have been allotted during the last two days. When the Star of the South, a Fijian trader, was clearing from the wharf this afternoon, she fouled a coal hulk, the anchor of which drove a hole through her port bow, just below her water line. She will be beached at midnight for repairs. The Luna proceeds north to-day, and will bring back the northern members of the General Assembly. Christchurch, June 24. In the Provincial Council last night an Ordinance introduced by the President of the Executive, giving the Superintendent power to dismiss his Executive during any session of the Provincial Council, was thrown out by 19 to 17. A resolution was carried to the effect that intending travellers by railway will be allowed to purchase tickets during any time of the day, either at the railway station or at certain specified places in various centres of population. Such ticket to be only available on the day of issue. An Ordinance, introduced by the President of tho Executive, for making overall fees received in municipalities on account of dog taxes, publicans and auctioneers licenses to be spent in the municipalities in which they are received, was thrown out 19 to 14.
