Messrs Corbett and M'Guire have obtained a promise for the establishment of schools at Nelson Creek, Half-Ounce, and Noble's, and also two additional pollingbooths for the Grey Valley at Black Ball and Little Grey. The proposed retirement allowance of Lll2 103 to G. S. Rowley, of Cobden, was struck ont. Mr Boase stated that Cobden was languishing, and the money could be better devoted to protecting property instead of putting money into the pocket of a wealthy man. O'Conor arrived to-day. intendent of Taranaki, regarding Mr Vbgel's circular on free immigration; did not state the case fairly. The Premier's circular to the Superintendents of Provinces stated that the Government were considering the propriety of abolishing free immigration, excepting with respect to single women-and -nominated immk grants ; all others be required to give promissory note 3to the amount of L 7. Before the question is finally decided j the Superintendents are requested to express their opinions on the proposed change. ,

The Provincial Council has passed an Education Rate. Houses valued at LlO and under L2O will be taxed LI ; over L2O and under LSO, L 2 ; . over LSO and under LIOO, L 3; over LIOO, L 4. All bachelors LI annually.
