THE Grey River Argus. PUBLISHED DAILY WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 1874
The proceedings of the Westland Provincial Council on Monday were chiefly of a formal character. His Honor the Superintendent read a telegram he had recived from the Premier relative to immigration to New Zealand, stating that Mr Holloway, the representative of the Agricultural Laborers Union, England, wished to visit Westland, and desired to know whether it would be convenient for his Honor to receive him in the courde of a few days. . The Superintendent had replied both to the Premier and to Mr Holloway that he would be glad to receive him, whenever he could make it convenient to come. Several Standing Committees were appointed, and Mr Lahman moved foi the appointment of a " Public Works and Immigration Committee," to consist of Messrs Tabart, M'Gaffin, Canavan, Woolcock, Seddon, and the mover. After a short discussion as to the composition of the Committee, the motion was carried. The Education Bill was brought up and read a first time, and the second reading fixed for Wednesday (to-day). We notice that Mr Dungan was to ask yesterday if his Honor the Superintendent had received an application to rent the Teremakau ferry, at a rental of a year, and "if such offer had received due consideration."
