MURRAY CREEK MINING NLWS.

[iNANGAHUAHBBALD, R[AY 16.] Anderson's. — No doubt the shareholders of this mine are greatly interested in the progress of the various works in course of constrnction, but, nevertheless, the present operations afford but little .scope for any lengthened comment. The whole of the works are being vigorously carried on, and evory advantage is being taken of the present fine weather for. the speedy execution of the outside works. Wealth of Nations.— The general operations of this mine are going on with the usual satisfaction, and there is scarcely anything worthy special mention. The contractors in the low tunnel have still very hard driving, but it has recently run into very good shooting stone, which enables them to make better headway. The entire length of the tunnel up to the present time is about 420 ft, and is really: an excellent piece: of work The middle tunnel is now in about 65ft, and considering that the work was only commenced a fortnight ago, . the distance driven is sufficient to show that fair progress is being made. The amount of stone sent down to the mill by the contractors last week was 200 tous.

Energetic— The; extensive works in i course of execution for- the permanent opening of this company's mine, certainly from one of the principle features in the Murray Creek district, and although the present operations in the interior of the claim are of a limited character, nevertheless a lanje number of men are busily employed constructing; works, which will eventually prove this company's mine t» he one of the most valuable properties in this district. To make the original machine site suitable 1 for' the 'erection of an engine and an additional ten head of stampers, it has been necessary to extend it towards the creek, 20ft in width and about 60ft in length. . Hayin" but a. very limited space on the hillside of the ma-chine-bouse, it has entailed a cpnsfderable amount of labor to make the work alluded to sufficiently substantial to withstand the pressure ■ of -the body of water contained in the creek at the time of heavy floods. However, the entire works are being executed in such a manner a3 to leave no doubt of their answering the required purpose. The contractors on the coal tramway have about 30 men employed, and some of the. heavier, work haathw .week, been got through in the way^pf heavy culverts round the precipitous parts of the sideling. United Band of Hope.— During the last 40ft a numb,er of leaders haye been crossed, but they have all a considerable
