The Albion left Melbourne at 8.30 p.m. on the 4th inst, and arrived at the Bluff at 2 p.m. on the 9th, making the passage of 4 days 15 hours. She brings the English mail, and 25 saloon and 35 steerage passengers, as also 300 tons of cargo for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at 9 p.m. Melbourne, May 4. Attorney-General Stephens having accepted a j'udgeship has been sworn in, and I taken his seat on the Bench, vice Williams retired. Rerford, Solicitor-General, takes the Attorney-Generalship. Fraser, Minister of Public Works, and Government Representative in Council, has resigned, and is succeeded by R. S. Anderson. The offices of Postmaster -General and SolicitorGeneral will not be filled. Mackay, the Minister of Mines, takes charge of the Education department. These changes weaken the Ministry, ex. cept the substitution of Anderson for Fraser. Writs have been issued to fill the Ministerial vacancies. It is unlikely there will be any opposition, except in St. Kilda, where Webb, equity barrister, and

probably Williams will be opposed for the vacancy. For the Central Province, Sargood, exwarehousoraan, and A. K. Smith, are nominated. The Parliament is to meet on the 19th May. ..:,-.- Jeddah, with Torres Straits mail, arrived at Brisbane last week, with later news to 6th March. The ship Cambridgeshire, long overdue from London, arrived last night dismasted. The disaster occurred owing to a heavy gale on April 2. No lives were lost. Yesterday evening, before a free discussion of the Society, M'Pherson, Preaidenfc of the Canterbury Working Men's Association delivered a lecture on the delusion of the New Zealand immigration scheme. Last week's social events are generally without interest. Dr Tracey remains in a precarious state.
