Nelson, April 28. At the Supreme Court yesterday, Edward Reilly pleaded guilty to stealing a post office letter containing money. He was sentenced to three years ponal servitude. Dune our, April 27. | The prospectus of a new bank called the "Colonial Bank" was issued to-day, capital L.2,5,00,000 in shares of L 5 each. It is proposed to offer people in the colony a fair proportion, half of the shares on calculation of the population of each Province, the other half to be disposed of hereafter as rapidly as tha progress of the Colony and shareholders decide. In no case will the remaining shares be offered outside the colony without New Zealand shareholders having the first opportunity. The head office to be in Dunediu in suitable premises already secured. A provisional committee of forty has been appointed, all Otagonian.— — DtrNEDiN, April 28. The English mail steamer had left Melbourne when the Alhambra arrived, but the Aldinga waiting at the Heads, took on the New Zealand mails from the Alhambra, and caught the mail-steamer at Adelaide. A large meeting of citizuns was held last night, and resolutions were unanimously passed in favor of dredging a deep waterchannel up to Dunedin, so as to bring the largest vessels in port to the city. A deputation waited upon tee Superintendent, to-day to urge upon the Government to carry out the resolutions. He replied that the Executive were favorable, and he would bring the proposals the Provincial Council, which meets to-morrow. Pokt Chalmers, April 28. Arrived.— -Asia, 78 days from Cork, with 467 immigrants, equal to 389$ adults. Three births, two deaths of infants. All wepe landed, and sent by train to Dunedin to-day.
