In the House of Commons, Lowther, Under-Secretary for, the Colonies, in replying to Mr Macarthur, said he had received no official, confirmation of the cession of Fiji, and opposed, the production of all papers relating to Fijian affairs. He said, the Commissioners report would receive the attention of the Government. Vienna, Jtpril 15. The emperor of Austria, while answering the Pope respectfully, explains that his duty compels the sanction of the Ecclesistical Bills. The Papal envoy to Vienna has received conciliatory instructions. London, April 15. The Agricultural lOck-out continues in Somersetshire, where the fai-mers refused to abide the result of arbitration, and the laborers are emigrating. In the North the disputes have been compromised, except in Bouth,;.Staff6rdßhire, where matters are unsettled. Galle, April 15. The Nubia arrived o.n..thV.lßth,. London, April 16. In the Commons Sir Stafford Northcote introduced his Budget speech at some length. The revenue for 1873 was 77,380,000, and the expenditure 76,500,000, including the amount of the Geneva award and the expenses of the Ashantee expedition. The revenue '■ for 1874 he estimated at 78,000,000, and the expenditure at 72,500,000. He proposed to take a penny off the income tax, and abolish the sugar duties, and also to provice for the reduction of the national debt by terminable annuities of L 400,000. There would also be a contribution of one million towards .the. reduction of local taxation. After providing for the above purposes, 462,000 still remain. April 16. A terrible explosion has taken place at a colliery at Dunstanfield, by which fiftyone persons were killed. The Runnymead put into Pernambucoj and discharged part of her cargo. She is damaged by fire. House duties are abolished. The Budget generally is approved. j April 18. | Dr Livingstone's funeral took place today. Westminster Abbey was crowded* Dean Stanley officiated, and there was a full musical service. The Queen senti a beautiful wreath, which was placed on the coffin. The principal paltbearers were Mr Stanley, Dr Wain wright, and Livingstone's two sons. Several Foreign Ministers, the Lord Mayor and Corporation, a number of Anglo-Indian notabilities were present. Sir William F#rgusson, M.D., previously made autopsy of the remains. . April 18., The appeal has been granted in the Mount-Morris case. J. Holder, Q.C., member for Preston, has been appointed Solicitor-General. A Russian squadron is about to visit Australia. \ The arrivals of wool to date amount to 206,000 bales.
