The census of the population of Taranaki, published 'in^ther-Tara'ivikiyHerald'i this morning, shows the increase in population in three years to be 1000. The Ben Ohou Station, Upper Waitaki district, was sold yesterday to Mr Gstler for L 20.000. The Dunedin Gvmdian has published a leader commenting strongly on ah order of Judge Chapman's, directing the officer in charge of the telegraph depot to place all telegrams at the disposal of the plaintiff in the libel case brought by Macassey, barrister, against the proprietor of the Evening Star. Macassey's solicitor has sent a letter to the Chiardian directors, stating that if they do' not cause inquiry to be made into the unprecedented course pursued, a rule nisi will be moved at the next Banco sitting to attach the company for contempt of Court in permitting unbridled comment upon a matter subjudice.
