THE HARBOR IMPROVEMENTS.
[to the editor.] Sir — With reference to a report of the proceedings of the Borough Council, appearings in this morning's paper, which states that a letter had been received from Mr Ostler, as attorney for Messrs Croaker aud Scott, intimating that he did not recognise the guarantee given by Messrs Hughes and McCarthy for one-third of the expenses of Mr Moriarty, the undersigned beg to state that the same Mr Ostler has sold to us all the interest of the said Messrs Croaker and Scott for a considerable bonus — that the whole of the purchaoe money agreed upon is lodged in the Bank of New Zealand, and to be paid over to Messrs Croaker and Scott on their executing the necessary documents, and that therefore Mr Ostler's notification has no meaning, but to express in an indirect manner that he and his principals have parted with all interest in the Brunner Mine. We are perfectly willing to pay whatever may be our proportion, and the letter of Mr Ostler is, as far as we are concerned, simply an impertinence. D. A. Hughes. T. G. McCarthy. Greymouth, March 30, 1874.
