Per Titan, from Hokitika : Ex Circe, from Melbourne, under bond — 1 qr-cask port, 26 bars iron, 1 spring cart, 2 cases machinery. Free and duty paid— s tanks malt, 1 case Bhoveh, 1 cask zinc, 13 bags potatoes, 3 empty barrels.
The only vessels in port are the Lioness and Titan. The former will tow in the Alice Maud, and the latter the s.s. St. Kilda, which is 'expected to arrive from Wanganui via Westport this morning. LlO per week and "found" is not bad wages for seamen, and particularly for a makeshift crew composed of lumpers and other wharf hands. This, however, was the wage the captain of the vessel Helen Burns had to pay the men he engaged for the run from Lyttelton to Port Chalmers, which occupied six days and a few hours.
