The Unrigged Race, for LgO ■; Hpkitika crew, first { Eclipse, Wellington, a bad Beoond. A protest was lodged on the gronnd that the Hokitika orew took their water unfairly. The Pair-oar Race was won easily by Romany Lall, Wellington, Hokitika crew being second ; five competitors.
The Scullers' Race was won by Heavn, of Hokitika, easily ; Brown, of Wellington, second ; Dawson, of Christchurch, third. Immense attendance. The river was as smooth as a mill-pond. The Kaiapoi Committee decided protest raised by the Eclipse against Hokitika crew, on the ground that the Hokitika crew tried to take their water unfairly. Tho race was desperately contested throughout.- ■■-, P. Bradley, of Hokitika, won the Canoe Race ; Kaiapoi, second and third. . Dunedin, March 27. Flour, ready sale at Ll2, in sacks, Ll 2, 10s ; bran, 5s ; sharps, 6a ; oatmeal, 235; oats have been bought up largely for local, consumption at 4s 3d ; barley, keen demand at 4s 9d to ss, last week's rates. Good is scarce ; plenty second rate offering. Grass seed, mixed, 43 3d to 4s 6d for export; butter, lid to Is; cheese, dull, at 4d to 4£d ; bacon and hamsj 9id; potatoes, not in market ; bought to be delivered in Christchurch at 50s to 60s. Captain Russell, surveyor to the New Zealand Insurance Company, intends to i try to get the brigautine Kate Bain off the rocks at Mokomoko, and sell the 1 vessels afterwards.
