THE Grey River Argus PUBLISHED DAILY. WEDNESDA Y, MARCH 25, 1574

The meeting of the Grey Valley Progress C >mmittee, held last evening, had for its business tho completion of the efforts of the Committee to ensure a full registration of the qualified electors in the district. It is satisfactory to state that very considerable results have accrued from the action of the Committee, and that it has been well supported by tho3e who gratuitously undertook the work of obtaining registration in the up-country districts. Mr J. W. Jones, the Chairman of the Ahanra Road Board, deserves public thanks for his efforts, and tho same may be said of Mr W. Card, of the New llivcr district — indeed, it may be said that every one whose assistance has been enlisted has clone his best, but as the claims to rcgistor may be deposited at other offices than that at Greymouth, it is only those forwarded to the Committee here that are absolutely known. It is, however, a fact that several hundred forms have been distributed all over the electoral district, and that, judging from the results directly obtainable by the Committee, a very large addition to the electoral roll may be expected this year. We would remind our readers that the period for registration expires at the end of this month, and that any one neglecting to avail himself of the privilege of the franchise will be shut out for a year, unless he prefers his claim before the 31st March. The proper forms can bo obtained gratis on application to Martin Kennedy, Esq., and the Progress Committee last night appointed Messrs E. B. Fox and J. Payne to canvass the town and secure; the registration of all persons who, not being on the present electoral roll, are entitled to , vote. The result should be that the Grey Valley district, whether with regard to Provincil or General Assembly elections, should be a strong constituency, and exercise a powerful effect upon any contest for seats in the General Assembly, or the Provincial Councils of Nelson or Westland.
