The following telegrams were received yesterday from the Superintendents of Nelson and Westland : — From the Superintendent of Nelson — "Yesterday was a holiday here. I have telegraphed to the Colonial Government requesting that Mr Moriarty's opinion nid,y be obtained, leaving the question of cost for after consideration if the Government refuse the liability." From the Superintendent of Westland— " The Minister of Public Works telegraphs me that your local authorities had communicated with him and that he had replied, hence it is unnecessary to forward copy of his reply to me. It would have been better had I been apprised of your local authorities being in direct communication with the Minister at the same time as myself." The foregoing telegrams do not require much comment, but it may be gathered from the message of his Honor the Superintendent of Westlaud how intensely anxious he is to further the interests of Greymouth, and that he holds in supreme contempt red tapisin of any kind ! Mr Curtis evidently takes a warm interest in the matter — as well he may do, seeing how much the development of the Nelson Coal-fields depend upon the improvement of the' port of Greymouth.
