Christchurch.— The Times of the Bth reports : —

There is absolutely no business doing in grain, and the subjoined quotations are merely nominal. They are :— Wheat, 4a 9d; oats, 4s sd; barley, 6s 9d ; flour, antlers' quotations, LI 1 10s in sacks, Ll2 in bags — 10s extra f.o.b. in Lyttelton ; bran and sharps, Li 10s to L 5. Butter and hams in cloth fetch S£d ,• bacon and hams, uncovered, are worth 8d ; but there are none in the market ; the demand is very active, aud the price is likely to go up. Butter is quoted at 7d, and cheese at 7dto7£d. The price of fat stock still keeps good, but, no doubt, must recede, as tbe summer advances, whtn the large numbers now fattening are brought forward. The supply must then far exceed the demand for ordinary consumption, and the only relief to the market will be tho meat preserving establishments which, will thus prove a greater advantage to the stoekowners fchan bhey ever have hitherto, although that has not been small.
