INANGAHUA MINING NEWS.
f HERALD, NOV. B.] The cleaning up at the. Juafc-in-Time was expected to be completed about midnight, so that r gold will probably reach Reef ton to-day. One lot of amalgam, weighing 1900nz, was retorted yesterday, yielding 7300z of gold; and a larger quantity would be retorted last night, so that the entire yield will be about 1500oz of retorted gold. It is from a period of undue depression marked by general distrust and want of confidence, that the district is now emerging, and there can be no doubt that in the progress already achieved there is good ground for congratulation. Without any single exception, the stone has improved as the reef-workings have reached lower levels. Such has been the satisfactory experience in Anderson's and the Ajax Companies' mines, both of which are now showing stone of excellent quality, with a good body of reef. At Boatman's, also, the indications are such as to justify the belief that a considerable amount of capital will be attracted to that portion of the field. The excellent results obtained from the Just-in-Time crushing, and the splendid indications in the Fiery Cross, justify the belief that that quarter will shortly become the centre of a very populous and thriving quartz-mining community. And further north again, similar indications are net wanting of a revival. The moribund claims at Larry's are giving signs of renewed vitality; meetings of shareholders are being held, and these have resolved that work shall be resumed. All these tokens of vitality are mainly due to the success that ha 3 attended the course of operations in the Just-in -Time and Fiery Cross Companies. In the former company, which is the only one that has yet had any stone crushed, and shareholders not only anticipate that a three weeks crushing will clear off their liability for the erection of wheel and batteries, but will also leave a respectable balance available for the purposes of a divi4end. On the other hand, in the Golden Fleece, Anderson's, and Ajax mines, some time must elapse before crushing can be continued without interruption, as all these companies are now making preparations for opening up at a lower level, and consequently the gold production must decline. At the Energetic 1 ! also, some change must be made in order to provide effective machinery, the water supply during the summer months at the existing machine site being altogether inadequate to the effective working oE the mine. Owing to these causes, therefore, the returns for some months hence are not likely to be large ; and it is necessary to refer to the circumstances giving rise to this, in order to. remove what otherwise might prove sufficient ground fora repetition of the -distrust and despondency which have previously prevailed.
