Mr O'Conor met the electors of Suburban North last night. A vote of thanks was passed. Dunedin, Nov. 4. At a meeting of the Synod last night it was resolved to establish denominational schools. Shares applied for in the Mosgiel Woollen Company has reached 12,000, and only 8000 are to be allotted. Another hundred acres of the harbor is to be reclaimed. The Ckiardian states that 50,000 acres are under grain at Oamaru this year, and 1000 draught horses are at work on one estate. One hundred and thirty-seven immi-
grants were nominated from Southland during last month. All descriptions of crops are looking well in the country districts. Some suspicions circumstances connected with the late fire led to an inquiry, but the evidence disclosed nothing. The coroner blamed th,e Insurance Companies for allowing too high insurances to be a temptation. In the case of White v. M'Kellar, finished to-day, the verdict was for the plaintiff, after a seven days' trial. Members of the Assembly are expected shortly to call their constituents together. Port Celaxmeks, Nov. 4. The ship Lady Jocelyn is at the heads, 85 d?iys from London. Seven children died on the passage of dysentery and three children are ailing. Three births occurred. I Auckland, Nov. 4. It is rumored that Messrs Reader Wood and Gillies will stand for the Provincial Council. • The Harbor Board have passed a vote of thanks and obligation to M'Kellar, Colfector of Customs, on the occasion of his transfer to Wellington. The Oddfellows' splendid new hall was opened with great ceremony to-day. Dissatisfaction is expressed regarding the verdict at the inquest on the man Oadenhead, at Tauranga. The jury found that death was caused by natural causes, while it was alleged by his wife that he died through injuries inflicted by police brutality. .
