(A special charge is made on consignees' aunouncements inserted iv this column.) Included in the manifest of the Sarah and Mary, from Melbourne, which we published yesterday, arc the following consignments: — • 21 trunks boots.. 8 cases millinery, 13 cases dress goods. 40 casos general drapory, Thompson, Smith, andß.vhklky. Messrs Henderson and Macfarlane, of Aucivland, have recently purchased at San Francisco the American barque Glympse. . The barque, said to be a fine sailor, was to load with lumber at Barrail3. o s Inlet for Dane'lin. The Glympse may be expected shortly to arrive, when sbo will be transferred to the British flag an 1 be placed on the books or the well known Circular Saw Line. The ship Result (says the SydnaU Morning Herald of the 25th ult.) has c mpletert he.repairs at Oucubert's establishment, and is now open t<> charte-. Since ' eiflg placed in the shipwrights' hands she bas b«en supplied 'with double sister keelsons, 16in by 16in ; through bolted both vrays ; double breast hooks and pointers have also' been fitted, backed up with beams and heavy crooks,* thus ren lerum the bows of the ship perfectly solid ; 6000 treenails have also been driven into the vessel's sides. This great additional strengthening will render her a fine stout vessel The Inman steamer City of Brussels, which left Liverpool on 28th February, with 500 passengers, had decidedly an uncomfortable time of it in attempting to cross the Atlantic. . While in mid ocean her rudder broke, and the ship became unmanageable. She lay to, drifting about, and an eager "look-out" was kept for passing steamers. During Tuesday, Wednesday, and a part of Thursday, they were tossed about in a heavy sea, and wi vessel made its appearance. The passengers in the meautime became frightened, and when, on Thursday evening, a ship was sighted in the distance, the excitement was indescribable, bignals of distress were hoisted, and the vessel, altering her course, bore down upon them, her appearance being hailed with delight. She proved to be a steamer of the same line, the City of Paris, and the disabled steamship was taken in tow to Queenstown The Southern Cross says that in little m^re than two months from this date the joint New Zealand and New South Waks Galiforaian mail service will be opened and connection between our shores and those of America, will be re-established. The construe cinh of new steamers of 2000 tons register is to be urgently proceeded with. We gather that these vessels are to be built in London, and meanwhile arrangements have been completed by the New South Wales Government for the first vessel of the new line to sail from Sydney for Fiji, Honolulu, and San Francisco on the 16th Dacember next. A few days after that date the first steimer ought to leave Auckland to connect at Fiji with this vessel, and we presume our postal authorities are making the necessary • preparations. In January, according to arrangement, for a-month-about direct service to and from each Colony, the through boat •will leave Auckland and proceed on to San Francisco.
