Little did I think when penning the advertisements which I addressed to the Gentle Public ! some months since; that I was speaking to millions cf people, instead of thousands ; but such was the case. I then alluded to the power which the Press possessed to advance the interests of individuals, — and to prove my, argument, cited instances of firms that had amassed fortunes through their liberality in advertise ! ing- -and as a more direct proof of the correctness of my remarks, I have lately received a copy of a London publication, nataed the Printers' Register, which was addressed to me (through the editor having read my lucubrations) as the "Spirited] Hotel-heeper of GreymoutJi." I assure you' l am not a little vain when I reflect that my advertisements have been noticed by the London Press, but how much more will my vanity be. tickled if I can (still through the instrumentality of the Press) induce you, citizens of Greymouth and he mobile public, to notice me, ay ! notice me in a tangible manner, namely, by giving me your custom. I am always eager to deserve it ; my stock is not a large one, but it has been carefully selected and well bought, hence my ability to compete with rival houses —and as for. the hotel department, stranger patrons will imagine from the promptitude arid style with which their wants are attended to that they are in the Palais Royal chez !
