These were no arrivals or departures at this port yesterday, owing to the. strong northwest gale which was btoving outside, which sent up a very heavy sea on the bar. The s,s. Murray and Waipara,. amtya number of coal-laden schooners are ready for sea. The schooner Gleaner entered out at Melbourne for this port on the 2nd instant. H.M.S. Clio, Commodore Stirling, has re^ turned from her cruise among the South Sea Islands. She sailed from Sydney on the 25th June, and arrived at Apia/on 18th- July, leaving again ou tbe 23rd foe Fiji. Mr Williams, the British Consul,. was:about to leave for England, owing to ill-health. All was quiet at Samoa. The Clio arrived at Levuka on 29th July, and took her departure for this port on the 13ch instant. . She has made her passage under canvas up to the 26th. H-M. ships Dido, Blanche, Alacrity, and Conflict were at Levuka when the Clio sailed. _ The Dido was under , sailing orders : to visit the different islands in the group, and also to take back to their' homes at -the 'Solomon Group the native 3 taken from the brig Carl HM.S. Chamelon was at \pia ten days before the Clio arrived, and had returned to the China station. The Clio wiil leave for Wellington in about a fortnight. — Sydney* Morning Herald, 20th August.
