-;■-. WEiiLttTGTOK', Sept. 9. ; In the House, to-day, Mr White asked if Government would extend the time for the conveyance of mails between Greymouth and Reef toil. He said the contractors had been fined ten pounds for the late delivery of mails during flood time. It was a hard case. Would the Government institute inquiry, not merely by writing to the Postmaster ? The Premier^ replied that the Government were more inclined to contract than to extend time for the delivery of the mails. They would institute inquiry, but would not be dictated to as to the manner of doing so. M Bills to authorise Otago and Wellington to set aside land as special secuiitie's, " under Provincial Loan Act, 1873, were 1 read a first time; also, the Stewart's Island Grant Bill and Neglected and Criminal Childrens Act Amendment Bill. The Civil Service Act Amendment Bill and Permanent Appropriation Repeal Bill were read a second time. The Native Lands Bill passed through committee. In the Legislative Council, the Colonial Secretary, in reply to {Colonel Brett said the Government could not risk money for a Central Establishment wheje deaf, dumb, and blind would be taught trades. The Provincial Governments looked after such. i The Public Trust Act Amendment Bill was read a third time. i The District Courts Amendment Bill was thrown out by 21 to 11.
