EXPORTS.

Per Crest of the Wave, for Dunedin : 85 tons coal.

The sjstem of publishing the' contents of cargoes, with specific quantities ! and the names of consignees or shippers, has long been abandoned by the Melbourne papers and by the principal papers in this Colony, and their example will in future be followed by the Argps.' There is obvious reason for this in the fact that consignees'bills of lading occupy considerable space, that "theyinvolve reporting work for which there is no justification in the general interest felt in the matter so reported, and that greater part cf the imports coastwise consist of small. parcels of goods which are in the hands of consignees as soon as they are recorded at the Custom House. To carry the system out in its entirety, the' contents of every barge arriving and of every dray dispatched, with the names of receiver or sender would equally deserve being reported. A summary of shipments inwards will, however, be given, as an iodex of the state of the local market; and consignees may have items of their imports inserted among the shipping intelligence, on payment of a special charge, such as is customary elsewhere. The schooners Crest of the Wave, for Dunedin,; and Wild Wave, for Lyttelton, coal-Weu, were towed to sea yesterday morning. On the evening's tide the s.s Murray, Captain Conway, sailed for Westport andNelßon.
