In the House to-day a Bill was read the first time increasing the Governor's salary by LSOO. and reducing his establishment allowances to a like amount. A long discussion ensued on the fact of votes for allowance having been largely exceeded during the past three years. Messrs Stafford, Fitzherbert, and Bunny condemned, and Messrs Yogel and Fox defended. The following were read a first time : — A Bill to amend the Otago Waste Lands Act ; a Bill to amend the Disqualification Bill and Promissory Oaths Bill (?). The Legislative Council's amendments to the Assaults on Constables Bill have been agreed to. The Floating of Timber Bill was read a second time, and will be referred to a Select Committee. The Estimates are now on. In the Council, the Provincial Councils' Powers Bill was thrown out.
