The B.s Go-Ahead sailed on Wednesday afternoon for Wanganui direct, with a cargo of coaL Up to the hour of closing of the Telegraph Office last night, the Claud Hamilton was not reported as having arrived from Melbourne. She will most likely turn up during the night and be tendered here to-day, when she will take passengers for all coast ports, and Melbourne via the Bluff. The b.s Albion is due to-day from Nelson. She takes passengers for Melbourne direct. There is a bay on the East coast of the North Island known by the name of ' ' Happy Jack's Bay." A contemporary states that — "It received the name from the circumstance —that one of the old settlers there— an old man-of-war's man— has his house built so as to command a full view of the entrance to the Bay, and after nightfall he keeps a kerosene oil lamp burning in one of the windows, so as to be a guidinglight for vessels running for shelter. The Napier Government have recognised Jack's services to the cause of navigation, and generously contribute from LlO to L2O a year towards the expenses of keeping his lamp burning." '
