Per Dianella, for Melbourne : 24,000 ft of pine logs, 110 hides, 11 casks tallow, James Hamilton and Co ; 15,000 ft pine logs, 10 tons coke, Girdwood ; 11 hogsheads cinders, Bank of New Zealand.

Among the departures yesterday there were two vessels from Melbourne, both with cargoes of timber procured in the Greymouth district. A large quantity of the same sort of timber is waiting on the wharf for shipment by the next vessels for the same port. The schooner Three Friends arrived off Charleston on Wednesday and, it being calm, one of the surf -beats went out and towed her into harbor. It is reported that the s.s. Rangitoto' is uninjured, barring the loss of her funnel. It is expected that she will be floated in a few days. An ingenious attempt at smuggling tobacco has been frustrated on boardthe Rotterdam steamer Waterloo, A Customs officer, noticing some loose screws in the capstan,, had the head removed and discovered eight pounds of manufactured tobacco beneath it. The owners were fined L 2 and L 8 respectively. The hull of the old hulk, William Hyde has, by the enterprise of the Messrs Jackson Brothers, shipwrights. Port Chalmers, been converted into a floating dock, and is now in working order for small crafts. The dock is 90ft long, and can take vessels in drawing 6ft. The owners intend bringing it to Dunedin, where, no doubt, it will be well patronised by our coastal community. There are at present two lighters undergoing repairs in it.
