Yesterday was a blank day in marine matters at this port,,except that the Dianella was landing timber from Hobart Town^for the • Grey valley, and shipping timber from the Grey Valley for Melbourne. The Gleaner, after a cleaning, was also got afloat, preparatory to receiving another cargo of timber for the same port. The Ladybird went on Friday to the wreck of the Rangitoto. Three-parts of the funnel and the forecastle deck . are | above water. The Napier is at the wreck saying cargo for insurers of 170 tons for Wellington. At the inquiry, the captain and mate were censured and admonished.
The schooner Canterbury, which left Lyttelton on Saturday week, bound for Hokitika with a cargo of produce, has been wrecked at the Kaikoras. Finding that she had sprung a leak, the. captain beached, her at the Kaikoras, where she now lies on the rocks full of water.. Her hull is insured in the New Zealand Insurance Company for Ll5O, and her cargo in the South British Insurance Company f0r, L450. The Atlantic is the 45th large Transatlantic steamer that has been lost since 1841. The value of these vessels was about L 3,000,000, 000,000 sterling. Forty-one of the ships were of iron. Seven', supposed to have foundered at sea, were never heard of. A range of workshops in the marine arsenal at Rio, Brazil, has been destroyed by a landslip. 52 persons having been killed and 15 wounded. :
