The Treasury ; Department of the United Stateß Government has issued the following circular to Collectors of Customs and others —"The Government of the United States is requested by that of Great Britain to endeavor to establish the identity of a certaiu large sailing-ship which, while navigating the Baltic Sea, somewhere between Copenhagen and Dantztc, on the 10th November, 1872, about 1 a.m , cimeinto collision wi*h and sank the British steamer Herald, and then proceeded, without rendering assistance to persons on hoard the sinking vessel, all of whom perished, except the fireman, though many might have been rescued by the ship from the bottom, of a lifeboat, . to which they clung until washpd away. . The unknown vessel lost' her bowsprit and jibboom. You are requested to give this Department anyjnformation which you may be able to obtain concerning the name and nationality of the sailing ship referred to."
