Messrs Bray Brothers, who got the contract for removing the rock in the fair-way , > channel at the entrance to Nelson harbor are making good progress with their work By a few charges of dynamite skilfully used, they have succeeded in splitting the rock into fragments, and little remains now but to clear away the pieces. There is already an additional depth of three feet of water above the rock, and in a short time the channel will be clear of it altogether. . the following ships forming the Australian squadron, will rendezvous at Wellington in October next :— The Clio, 21 guns, Commodore Stirling ; Rosario, 3 guns, Commander Challis ; Blanche, 3 guns, Commander Simpson ; Basilisk, 5 guns, Captain Moresby ; Dido, 8 guns, Chapman ; Alacrity, 1 gun, Simpson; Connie., 1 gun; Renard, 1 gun; Sandfly, 1 gun ; Beagle, 1 gun. Great alterations and improvements have been effected at the Commercial Wharf, Nelson. The structure has been considerably lengthened and materially altered and improved, so that carts can nowbe taken alongside the ships to receive cargo with every .despatch and the minimum of damage. In proof of this we may mention that the: Alhambra lately discharged 1000 sacks of barley and about 10 tons general c»rgo in three hours, and the steamer was able to get away by the same tide. — Colonist.
