GREY RIVER HOSPITAL.

A meeting of the Grey River Hospital Committee was held at Gilmer's Hotel, on Wednesday evenings W.H. Revell, Esq., in the chair. ; The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, and a letter from Mr Phillips received, the minutes of meeting held oh June i were amended by inserting LlB4 Os 2d for L 122 13s sd, as the accounts^fpr that month passed for payment. The attendance, as far as the. public, outside of the. members of the Committee, was; concerned, consisted of seven gentlemen, but nearly 'all the members of the Committee were present. HospitalCoihmittee'3 aimual report, which was as follows: — •• The Committee of Management of the Grey River Hospital beg to lay before the subscribers and the public the following account of the institution, for the year ending 30th June, 1873. "The progress'of the Hospital during the year has been satisfactory, and the number of those who have availed themselves of its advantages is greater than it was last year by 22. : (1 ";The total number of the patients treated during the year is .764, viz., 252 indoor patients, and 512 outdoor patients. Full particulars of the above numbers, with details as to the nature of the various diseases and injuries will, be found in the report of the Medicals Officer; ■ "It will, be seen that the report how includes female patients; > The grant in aid from the Nelson and Westland Governments towards, Hie erection of. a female ward, has been ' received and \ "ex-; pended during the year^ and an additional . wing has been added;, to the /building. There is now a' commodious ward suited for the reception of six female patients, . also a bath-room, matrons-room, &c. ' ■ " The want ot accommodation for for males requiring hospital treatments thus remedied to a great extent. While the usefulness of the institution is increased in this manner it must be ; remembered that the expense of maintaining it will also be considerably enhanced. . .. , , "In order to guard against any misconception as to the purposes of the female ward, or the class of patients which could be .admitted, the Committee drew up a series of regulations, setting forth among other things that they. could not receive such cases as belong properly to a lying-in hospital, for which purpose the present ward; was never intended. .
