There were no arrivals or departures at this poat yesterday, owing to the heavy seas sent home by the recent south-west gale. The schooner Arthur Wakefield, now building at Wangarei, Auckland Province, for Mr J. S. Cross, junior, of Nelson, was expected to be launched on the 4th instant. Baron Lesseps , proposes .a commission on the subject at Constantinople. The missionary schooner Southern Cross haying been found unseaworthy, ' another is about to be built of much larger dimensions (130 tons, the old one being9s), with auxiliary steam power to steam four knots when calms and other circumstances render it desirable. • • The last voyage, of the Nebraska from Auckland to Honolulu occupied 20 days, during three days of which a terrific N.E. gale was experienced. . A gentleman who was on board states that the gale was the most severe he had ever been under, but the vessel behaved splendidly. The want of proper wharf accommodation at the port of Nelson for steamers trading to the Coast, has (says the Colonist) been for some time felt by the owners, Messrs N. Edwards and Co., who, having purchased the Albion wharf, have commenced to enlarge it very much, so as to meet their requirements. The contract for the work has been secured by Mr W. Akersten. The hearing of the charge of stealing the schooner Florence against Captain Seaton has been remanded for a week. The Florence reached Auckland on Saturday, under the charge of Captain Simpson.
