INANGAHUA ITEMS.
[HERALD, 'JULY 2.] The Ajax Company commenced crushing for the Golden Fleece Company on Monday, at midnight. Anderson's Company renewed crushing I after washing up, on Friday. > John Smith, ablacksmith in the employ of the Anderson's Company, broke his collar-bone on Tuesday night last, through a fall down an excavation near ths machine site. A settler, named Robert M'Donald, fractured his leg on Friday, at Black's Point, having slipped and fallen heavily wken crossing from a butcher's shop. The limb was broken just above the ankle. A meeting of directors of the North British Gold Mining Company was held yesterday. A call of sixpence per share was made, and a further contract let for extending the drive to the westward of the shaft an additional 50ft, the price accepted being 45s per foot, which is 5s less than the previous contract. An inspection of the mine by the manager showed that the face of the drive was damp, and during last week quartz leaders about the size of an ordinary pipe-stem had been intersected, which are safe indications of the reef being not far distant. Mining affairs at Larry's are looking better that ever. From recent discoveries in the Caledonian claim and in No. 2 South there can be very lifcfcle doubt but that there is a permanent rich reef existin? at the low level. ' For the last two weeks No. 2 Company have been driving along the cap of a very rich strong reef, the stone of which is entirely different from that in the upper level. The only stone like it is that which has been struck in the low level of the prospectors' claim. The width of reef is four feet six inches to five feet, with well defined walls. Just above the reef there is a seam of red mullocky stuff, whilst under foot they have this solid stone as hard as flint, but, like that in the prospectors, the richest yet discovered in the district. They are driving to the southward, and intend to continue to do so until they have thoroughly tested this stone. Some of the claims to the southward are intending to commence work,
