WEIGHTS FOR THE METROPOLITAN STAKES AND MELBOURNE CUP.

[akgtjs, junb 20.] . The weights for the A. J. 0. Metropolitan Stakes were not expected to be posted, in Melbourne until to-day at the. earliest, consequently there was not a large attendance at Mr Godyer's hotel yesterday when the handicap was read out. The top weight is fixed at 9st 61b, Hamlet, as was generally expected, being placed first on the list. The Ace is adjudged to carry 21b less. There are a few .persons who think the positions of the horses should be reversed, seeing that Hamlet scarcely performed at all last season, while The Ace proved himself to be the best horse of his year. Dagworth- carries 9st, at which weight his . friends consider he has a chance. Prophet is fairly weighted at Bst 71b, but he is said to be very backward in condition. Priam with Bst 21b to carry is much fancied by some. This horse has always had a number of very warm admirers, who are not likely to desert him for this race. The Arrow, who carries 7st 91b, is likely to become a favorite. Wombo, late King of the Ring, with 7st 51b, is well in for a five-year old who has performed well in good company. M'Callum Mohr and Horatio are likely tosee a very short price each before the event, if they do well, as they are leniently treated with 7st 4lb and 7st 31b respectively. Why King of Clubs should give M'CallumMohr 31b is difficult to understand. Rose d' Amour carries 6st 31b, the highest weight put on a three-year-old. Kipglike and Kingcraft are at the bottom of the list with sst 71b each. The weights for the Melbourne Cup were posted at half-past 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The handicap commences heavier than that of the Metropolitan. The Ace is placed at the top of the list with 9st 91b, Hamlet being 21b below him;" King of the Ring received Bst lib, and his owner scratched him directly he saw the weights. Dolphin and Miss Jessie are put together at 7st 111 b. King of Clubs and M'Callum Mohr are also weighted at 7st 111 b. Exile (late Lapdog) carries 7st 121 b, and will likely take an advanced position in the betting if he does well in his training. Lapidist is at the head of the three-year-old with 6st 101 b. Rose d' Amour has 31b less. As usual on the publication \of great handicaps, there was not much betting, , most persons preferring to take time to consider the weights carefully before investing. For the Metropolitan, Priam was backed at 500 to 30. M'Callura Mohr would have been supported at 1000 to' 70 for the-Metropolitan, but the fielders would not concede the price. 3000 to 65 was taken about Lothair for the Melbourne Cup. Exile would have been taken at 100 to 3to any amount. Some heavy double-event books have been opened on the Metropolitan and Melbourne Cup. 'For continuation of news see teh 'page.)
