Christchurch.— The Lyttelton Times, of the 14th inst., reports :—
No transactions beyond trade requirements have taken place in flour ; millers' stocks are ample. Oats are taken by produce dealers at very full rates, say 4s 3d, at the same time they are fulfilling orders at 4s Gd for old brands for Melbourne. The late advioos from Australia must: ryiHSfi an active demand, and We expect to see excessive ruling here in the course of a few weeks. Barley has not recovered the shock caused* by the arrival of the Stormy Petrel with a cargo from California, and we hear that even the Dunedin maltsers have taken alarm. Barley there is less by Is 6d per bushel than previously. There is no change in the value of dairy produce. Cattle are Uttle, if anything, improved in value, and the supply continues very plentiful. We quote the average value of beef at 17s Gd per 1001 b; very prime being worth a little more, and coarse quality somewhat less. Store cattle are only in slack demand, and prices have receded accordingly.
