THE ELECTORAL ROLL.
[to the editor.]
'■■: Sir, — I am much pleased, as also are my mates, to see the course adopted by the people of No Town, in trying to upset the arbitary cutting and curtailing of the list of voters for the Grey district. It is unreasonable to think that we can describe the "localfty or situation of our houses, except. we give the latitude and longitude of the same, because vi a great number of instances it would be- impossible to tell what town and district they are situated within.; , Jam of .opinion that the proper course for the Registration Officer to have adopted was to enquire if any fictitious claims had been lodged, or fake "declaratioßS made, and, -if so,-to use the power he possesses in striking such off, and, if in his wisdom he thought fit, to enforce the penalty laid dovyn, but simply because a man does not comply with an impossible regulation he is struck off the roll as disqualified, is monstrous. When the Governt appoint officers they expect them to nee what brains they may be possessed of in conducting the affairs of the state, and to act fairly and reasonably as men, and not as pieces of humanity to turn a wheel to set machinery to work. laray&c, Claimant. No Towa, May 17. : : ' :
