IMMIGRATION.
The Inverness Courier, of February 6, contains i report of a lecture delivered by Mr Birch, recently of Otago, in the Music Hall, Inverness, to a "numorous audience," on " the advantages the Colony of Rew Zealand offers as a field for emigration." The Courier reports that "Mr Birch stated that the climate of New Zealand is remarkably adapted to the inhabitants of Europe, while its resources are without doubt second to no country in the world." Then follows a thicket of" figures quoted by Mr Birch to show the wealth and advancement of the coloily. He then spoke of the bonuses offered by the Government of New Zealand for the production of certain articles. We quote the Courier again : — "Mr Birch pointed out to the meeting the liberal offers and encouragement of the Government in thus by means of bonuses desiring to draw the attention of the people in this country who understand the manufacture of theße industries as also their desire of encouraging emigration by making the repayment of passage money by promissory note after arrival in the colony. He strongly advised all single men who contemplated going to New Zealand to get married, and to look out for a wife who would be in reality a helpmate, as there was work and wages for all, f and labor was dignified, whether of the " head or the hands." A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Birch at the close of his lecture.
