j [NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Duneuin, May 5. A Riverton telegram states that the schooner Nancy was driven ashore yesterday at New River Heads. She had entered out fo:>- Stewart's Island in ballast. No lives were lost. She is uninsured. The Colonial Secretary telegraphs Lo Mr Macandrew, that the number of immigrants ordered to arrive in Otago during the current year is 4062, exclusive of nominated immigrants. The Agent-General is instructed to offer free passages, and to pay, where he thinks it necessary, the expenses of immigrants to the port of departure. " Joel, Darling, and Johnston waited on the Superintendent to-day in reference to the Government bonus for the manufacture of bottles. They said they were prepared to go into the matter. The Superintendent said the Government would not allow the bonus authorised to drop. Free passages have been offered to workmen and families. Mr Seaton is forming a company in England, and he recommended consulting with him. Butterfield, charged with bigamy, was discharged, owing to the Sydney police not sending the necessary documents. The sailing of the Claud Hamilton is postponed till to-morrow. The number of immigrants introduced by the General Government from March 1872, to March 1873, is 1647 adults. A pistol was found planted in Jetty street this morning. It is stated the Government will meet the Council to-morrow with a credit balance of over LI O,OOO. Wellington, May 5. A company is opened with a capital of LSOOO, L2so" shares, to purchase a steamtug. It is intended to send to Melbourne for one. The Independent suggests that perhaps the Lioness is procurable. Auckland, May 5. A native meeting w"l be held at Kuiti at once. Tawhiao refused to give up the murderers, and wrote them to come to Kniti. When last heard of they were carrying Sullivan's head and heart as a present to Manuhiri, or Princess Sophia. A late rumor says that another meeting is being held to discuss the giving up of the murderers. Dukedin, May 5. The Alhambra towed the Claud Hamilton off. The Claud does not sail till .Friday. Agricultural laborers are so scarce at the Taieri that farmers have raised wages LlO a year. Female servants are scarcer than ever. . A vote of confidence in Mr Shepherd was passed at Cromwell. The North Dunedin Rifles beat the Ballarat Rangers by 58 points. A coroner's jury at Clyde returned a verdict of manslaughter against a man named Atkinson, in whose house a woman named Main died under suspicious circumstances.
