Melbourne.— The Melbourne Argus of the 18th- instant reports: — ' In the import markets to-day the general, tone of business has been quiet, and, with one or two exceptions, transactions have been on a very moderate scale. The market for breadstuffs has undergone no change. ' Best brands of flour bring Ll3 5s to Ll3 103, in fair trade parcels, and 1 line of 30 tons, country flour realised LI 3. Wheat is in good demand, and good samples are worth os 7d to 03 Bd. In oats a line of 5000 bushels good heavy feed oats was placed at 3a 7d. Maize continues steady at 3s lAd to 3s 2d. In sugars there has been a good deal of excitement, owing to private telegrams received from Mauritius to the 4th April, which, state that an advance of L 2 10s per ton had taken place in the price of sugars during the month, fine whites bringing up to 8-75d01, and yellows 7*50d01, and market quite bare, and not able to execute orders. No fresh shipments had been made to the colonies. Holders here have consequently advanced their demands fully L 2 per ton, and the bugar Company notify an advance of LI per ton all round. We learn that some 4000 bags Mauritius sorts have changed Jiands at very long figures. In kerosene, a better demand may be noted, and Borne 3000 cases Devoe's and Diamond have changed handß, the exact prite not disclosed.
