RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, NO TOWN.

Friday, April 18. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.) John Hagarty was brought up on warrant from Red Jack's, charged with disobeying a summons of the Court. It being the first case of the sort, the prisoner was cautioned and discharged. The same defendant was then fined 20s and costs for using indecent language at No Town, and 40s with costs for resisting the polipe in the execution of their duty. Thomas Cooper was fined 10s with costs for a breach of the peace at No Town. Three inebriates were fined 5s each with costs for being drunk and incapable, or, as one of them confessed it, for "losing the big drum." CIVIL CASES. Campbell v. Gonedick. — A claim of L3o' 14s for goods supplied at No Town. No appearance of defendant : judgment by default for the amount claimed with costs. A warrant of execution to issue at once. ACTION FOR DAMAGES FOR SLANDER. David Ferris v. Frederick Stanhope. — A complaint that the defendant did, on 12th April, at No Town, write and post certain notices in writing containing false and libellous and slanderous insinuations against the plaintiff, and calculated to | injure him in" his character and business. The plaintiff claimed LSO as damages. The alleged libels werecontained in squibs and lampoons placarded about the streets of No Town with reference to a dispute going on between sections of the School Committee with respect to the disposal of the school building for certain purposes. His Worship doubted whether he had jurisdiction in the matter, and adjourned the further hearing of the case till 7th May. Martin Leoni v. Jerry M'Carthy. — A claim of L 2 10s for damages done by the defendant's pigs to the plaintiff's garden. This was the usual "grunt," without which the proceedings of the sitting of the Court at No Town would not be complete. His Worship, after remarking upon the apparently interminable nature of the pig dispute between the parties, gave a verdict for the plaintiff for LI with costs. Bapciste Maritana was charged with bein* of unsound mind, and remanded to Ahaara. The Court was adjourned to 7th May.
