SUPREME COURT, AUCKLAND,

In Bankruptcy. (Before his Honor Mr Justice Johnston.) Patrick Gleesox. — This was an application for final discharge. Mr Armstrong for the bankrupt. No one appeared to oppose. The Trustee's report stated that the bankrupt had formerly kept a store on the West Coast, where most of his liabilities were incurred. On his leaving that place the debts due to him amounted to L2OOO. Before he left the gold fields suddenly collapsed, and the debtors were left penniless, and unable to pay their debts. He had gone from the West Coast to Coromandel, where he kept the Emerald Hotel. He had there indulged in mining speculations, the consequence of which was that his effects were seized to pay his debts, and he was now earning his livelihood as a barman. The bankrupt states he was sure that if ever he met his 250 debtors of the West Coast in good circumstances they would pay him, as they were all decent honest people. The Trustee stated in his report that he thought it would be a pity to disturb the friendly feelings existing between the bankrupt and his debtors, merely to please his creditors, and had not endeavored to trace them out. (Laughter.) The liabilities at the date of filing were. LSBB, and the assets, " barring the dacent people," amounted to L3O. — His Honor expressed surprise that the bankrupt should be rash enough to make the positive assertion that his 250 debtors were all honest people, and said chat the Trustee's report was the most vivacious specimen of bankruptcy literature that he had ever read. (Laughter.) He also commented upon the practice of men in business carrying on mining speculations. Ho asked if the creditors at Greymouth had been served with notice of the declaration of insolvency. Mr Armstrong said that . notice had been inserted in the Grey River Argus. His Honor said he could not give the bankrupt his discharge until the j Trustee had communicated with his credi- \ tors in Grey mouth. . : '
