The shilling subscription for the erection of a monument to Robert Burns in Glasgow now amounts to nearly LI2OO. Ricciotti Garibaldi, second son of General Garibaldi, is on a visit to England ; for a short time, it is expected he will be the .guest of Mr J. Rae, L.L.D., F.S.A., of Chislehurst. The electric light having been introduced at South Foreland Lighthouse, it is now to be further improved in efficiency by the addition of fog-horns — two to be placed on the cliff and two on the beach. Steam power will be employed to sound the horns, and part of the machinery has already arrived. Mariners will hail this as a great improvement.
