It is stated here that Mr Yogel consents to accept the Premiership, and will reconstruct the Cabinet, with Mr Whitaker, if possible, in the Legislative Council. The Government have purchased the Port Chalmers and Dunedin Railway, on the following terms : — They acquire the LI 20, 000 of stock of the company, at L 6 6s per share, and take up the liability of the Company's LIOO,OOO of debentures. The total purchase-money is L 176 ,000. The Company aaked L 220,000. Dunbdin, March 24. The weather was threatening, but the rain held off, and there was splendid weather for racing. 3500 persons were present on the Forbuiy course. For the Maiden Plate twelve stalled, with the following result :— Butterly, 1 ; Queen Bee, 2 ; May Morn, 3. The race was won by four lengths. For the, Forbury Handicap there was a capital start. Malibar and Roebuck led for the first quarter of a mile, hard pressed by Patch and Catapult. Mabel then got the lead, passing Tambourini and Hatred in splendid style. Won by a length and a half. Lydia was a good fourth. The ground waß heavy. Atlas was scratched. Time, 3min 2£sec. Betting : Tambourini, 3to 2 ; Misfortune, sto 2 ; Malice, 3to 1 ; Mabel, 20 to 1, offered freely. St. Kilda Stakes.— Tambourini was scratched. There was a good race between Hatred and No Gentleman. The former won. Publicans' Handicap. — Hatred, 1 ; Merryman, 2. It was a splendid race,r won by a nose. Time, 2min 22Jsec. The anniversaiy pic-nic was largely attended, and was a great success. Arrived — Free Trader, from Hobart Towj.
