The interest taken in the subject of instituting a Coal Company was sufficiently indicated by the fact of there being a full attendance of the members of the lately appointed Committee at the meeting called for last evening at the Union Hotel. At this meeting resolutions were passed, and to-day they will be telegraphed to Wellington. The resolutions were : — 1. That this meeting regrets exceedingly that the Wellington shareholders appear to have departed entirely from their original intention as put forth in the rough prospectus sent to us , and upon which our co-operation was sought, being confident that, had the original intention been carried out, success must have attended the enterprise, as not only would coal fields of immense value have been thoroughly developed, but a most extensive export trade would have heeu established. 2. That it is desirable without delay to take steps to develop the Westland Mine, and that, previous to action being taken here, a telegram be sent to Wellinttton requesting definite information as to the intentions of the present Company. According to the latter resolution, a telegram will be forwarded to Wellington to-day, conveying the spirit, if not the letter, of the Committee's determination, and upon the reply will necessarily depend the subsequent action of the ran tiemen in Greymonth who are prepared to become shareholders in any sound enterprise calculated to promote the development of the Grey Valley coal-mines, and the trade which must necessarily be there 'ly created.
