GREYMOUTH ANNUAL RACES.
The general settling in connection with the annual race meeting took place last night at the Albion Hotel, where the Stewards met, and paid over the stakes to winners. There were no protests, and everything passed off in the most pleasant manner. The following are the amounts won by the various horses during the race meeting given in detail : — FIRST DAY. Mr Carroll's Laceufeed, LSO. SECOND DAY. GOLD FIELDS HANDICAP. Mr Walters's Slander, LlO5. Mr Webb's Gossip, L2O. HURDLE HANDICAP. Mr M 'Gee's Dick Turpin, L3O. STEWARDS HANDICAP. In thus noticing the proceedings connected with the race meeting, it is due to the Stewards and to all the other honorary managers of the meeting to say that nothing could be more satisfactory than the manner in which the arrangements as a whole, and in every particular, were conducted. reason to recognise the exertions of the Stewards as having been bothactive and well directed/ and the same istisfrictioi£ raiiafc be expressed as to the labo rs of the;' judge (Mr Thbmpson), the starter" (Mr Strike), the Clerk of the Coarse (Mr Carroll), and the Secretary (Mr Payne). It 13 admitted by those who are competent to give ah opinion, namely, the owners of the horses which took part iti the races, that more perfect preliminary arrangements could not be desired," and that the throughout, so far as the Jockey Club l is concerned, were highly creditable to its members^ and to the district and interests which they represent.
