' '-' "' ' '"■ The following letters wereiead ;— From Peter Gibson and nine other miners working in 'German Gully, objecting to. the sale of a block of landin that l6caK^ to Mr Martin Kennedy, on the ground •' that the land is auriferous ; that the subscribers to the letter have been mining there for seven years, arid have been cultivating the land ; that it is likely to afford them employment for several years ; and that if it be sold to Mr Kennedy they would only be allowed to mine oh sufferance, and possibly niight haW>to remove, thereby sustaining great lotuTand injury. From the Chief Surveyor, reporting in respect, to' an application from the Roman Catholic Church Committee for a school reserve near Pounamou. The" Chief Surveyor stated that a number of prospecting holes had been sunk in' the grdunii several years back, but nothing- payable war ever found, and no part thereof has] been worked." As,' however, it was possibkT-that the ground might be required for a tailing site, he recommended .that prior to gazetting the land a reserve, as applied for, the .Board should make it a temporary reserve for four months, ani if by that time no part of it is required for mining purposes. it might then safely be declared Vperma. nent reserve. ...
