Dunedin, March 13. A fire took place last night, which totally destroyed Gibbs and Clayton's saw-mills, Rendall's tannery, Goldsmith's bone-mill, and Spicer's cooperage. The origin of the fire is unknown. The following is a correct list of the losses and insurances : — Gibbs and Clayton, L 5950 ; Asher and Co., about L 2500; Spicer, L 50 0; Randall, LBOO ; Gordsmith, L2OOO. Insurances — On Gibbs and Clayton, South British, LlOOO; New Zealand, LIOOO ; Scottish Commercial. L 50 0; Norwich Union, LSOO. Asher — New Zealand, L2OOO. Spicer— New Zealand, L 450. Goldsmith— Victoria, LIOOO. Randall was uninsured. The supposed cause of the fire was the heating of a journal of a machine shaft. The City Council is considering the desirability of abolishing the Mayor's Conrt. Arrived — Southern Cross, from Hobart Town. Sailed— Dakotah. E. S. Cargill goes home by her. He resigned his seat in the Provincial Council. Judge Gray has got 12 months leave of absence, and Judge Ward takes his place. Ardmore Station has been sold for L.20,000. J. F. Herbert is the purchaser. Nelson, March 13. Extra match— Black target, centre and bull's-eye visible only to the marker ; ordinary sights ; five ranges, three shots at each range. Firing to be repealed at the same range with white sights, as suggested by Soall, of Auckland. The following are the total scores : — Ist prize, L 5, Taylor, 46 45—91 2nd „ L 4, Adam, 42 46—88 3rd „ L 2,. Clode, 40 47—87 4th „ LI, Wales, 43 44—87 Rain prevented another match of the kind being proceeded with. The ball to the representatives, last night, was a great success. A brilliant company, numbering 350, present. The prizes are to be presented tomorrow. The North representatives leave on Monday, and the South men by the Rangatira on Sunday early.
