SEALING AT THE SNARES.

The schooner Nancy arrived in the New River last week from a sealing cruise to the Snares, where she has been singularly successful. Her cruise extended over a period of two months, and she brought back 400 skins. The Nancy, which was out during the fine months of winter at the Aucklands, left Invercargill the middle of November. She ran down to the Snares in 36 hours, arriving there just in time to effect a landing before a south-east wind set in. The Snares are wholly devoid of either coves or bays, fit at all events for a craft of any size. A slant of weather has accordingly to be watched, and the landing made in the ship's boats on the rocks. Having landed five of her hands on the island, the Nancy, with the remainder of her erew — two men — steered back for Stewart's Island, where she remained until the time appointed for closing the expedition. She then returned to the island about t?ro r weeks ago, and brought away the five ' men, together with the produce of their labors, arriving at Invercargill as stated above. The sealing party report having seen a number of hump-backed whales during their stay "upon the rock. The rock is altogether destitute of vegetation, but it is said to be literally covered with, the Cape pigeon deposits, a kind of guano, which from its great quantity kills vegetation. The eggs of these birds were likewise found to be very numerous. The sealing party report having found no trace of anyone having been on the rock for many years past.
