THE MEETING OF SOUTH BEACH MINERS.
[to the editor.] Sir— The question which is being agitated by the miners on the South Beach, in reference to the sale of land in the vicinity of workings is one on which different opinions may be entertained. Misrepresentation, however, is very objectionable, and an instance of it has occurred on the part of the correspondent who supplied the report of the meeting of miners held on Monday evening last, at the Nelson Hotel, for the purpose of protesting againt the sale of land in the district for agricultural purposes, which ought to be brought under the notice of the public. In the first place the " large attendance" stated in the report consisted of twelve persons, all told. In the second, two persons who are mentioned in the report as having spoken—one of them at great length — were not there at all, viz., Messrs J. Power and M. Ryan. I think these facts destroy the credit of the report altogether, aud make it appear as if the agitation was not a bonafde one, but got up by a clique in an underhanded way. Yours, &c, Observer.
