Wellington, Feb. 13. Mr Yogel telegraphs that there is every probability that Mr Webb will get the American subsidy of L.1 00,000 for ten years, but that the Intercolonial Conference is not likely to do anything. An offer has been made to the Westland Council to lease 5000 acres of the Coal Reserve on the Westland side of the Grey River, to work in opposition to the Brunner Mine. The Government is likely to grant a bonus to the first steam collier put into the Grey River trade. Nelso.v, Feb. 13. At the Waimea Steeplechase Meeting to-day, in the Hurdle Race, of eight flights and 1^ miles, Simpson's Modesty was first, Hazen's Eclipse second. In the Great Waimea South Handicap, three miles, 75 soys, Hughes's Mistletoe first, Saxton's Lucifer second. Wakefield Free Handicap, two miles, Schroder's Rustic first, Thomas's Kangaroo second ; time, 7min 33sec. There was a good attendance and fine weather. Auckland, Feb. 13. Cotton has been grown successfully in Waikato. Numbers of farewell addresses to the Governor from the Maori tribes are being sent in. A large Native meeting will be held to bid him farewell, and a monument to the memory of Tuna Waka is to be unveiled then. Dunedin, Feb. 13, O'Neill and Thomas, of Wellington, offer to lay down tramways in the city, giving the City Council 10 per cent, of net profits after paying 7^ per cent, to themselves.
