THE TICHBORNE TRIAL.
After many legal consultations and sparrings, the Tichborne trial difficulty has been solved. In the first instance, agplicatiqn was made by claimant's, doahs^el'fdr anile ; »i»i, callijigpn the Crown to '.show 'cause' vrlif'4 'writ -of procedendq shoxild not issue, qr, in the alternative, whether' there s.houjd, ijot; tj§ a trial at bar. Th§ rule, was gra, rite.d, an 4 a few days later, on the case again coming before the Queen's Bench, ShT John Coleridge, as the law officer of the Crown, demanded a new trial at barthat is, before all the judges,' in which case the trial can go on uninterrupted to its close. That point being settled, the period of commencement came up for consideration. As the trial in Hilary Ter.m would cause great inconvenience in making 'tli§ /rieces.s.a.ry arfangem§nps fp.r the spring circuit, the 'Coqpt'dgQivjed'tp postpone it until Easter Tendon the fifth day of which . the case could* be begun, and proceeded with., to the end, without interfering with the summer
circuit. Monday, the 21st day of April next, is now, therefore, the day on which the case may be expected to commence. . On Tuesday last a notice, signed by the solicitor to the Treasury, was served on the solicitor for the claimant, "to the effect that Lady Doughty was so dangerously ill that it was deemed advisable, on the part of the Crown, to have her! ladyship's depositions with regard to this case taken at once. The clsuawint was thus afforded an opportunity^^ being present in person or of being represented by counsel whilst such depah^ns were being taken. - A consultati6W : was held in the afternoon at the chambers of Mr Serjeant Sleigh (counsel for the claimant) as to the course to be pursued in the interest of his client. ,,
