A brutal murder is reported as having been committed at Sandford, Victoria. On Monday night, 13th ultimo, a brick maker named Richard Edwards left M 'Lean's hotel at a rather late hour, for the purpose of going home. He had been drinking, and was slightly under the influence of liquor, but was not drunk. Early next morning he was found by some children in one of the back streets of the township, lying on the ground, at the point of death. His head and face had been hacked about in a ferocious manner, with, it is supposed, a tomahawk or shingling hammer, and the injuries were mortal. The man was insensible when found, and died soon afterwards No weapon was found near the spot, and not the slightest clue has been obtained as to the perpetrator of the crime. The inhabitants of the township are complaining greatly of the want of p_olicrt protection, there being no police station ne&rer thanCasterton, which is three miles distant.
