WARDENS' REPORTS.

The following is a summary of the usual half-yearly report sent in to the County Council by Mr Warden Revell regarding the Grey District :... Mr Warden Revell reports his district to be in a prosperous condition, and although mining operations are quiet, they are steady, and a fair average population is maintained, showing, however, a slight decrease in numbers. New River Company have expended in labor to the extent of LSOOO, have completed the most difficult portion of the works, and are prepared to let about ten heads of water on Mehan's Flat. The Hibernian Company have expended about L3OOO in labor, and have completed about half of their works, bnt are waiting the proraised advances from the General Government before they can push on to completion. The revenue, without gold duty, amounted to L 1525 8s 6d. Of the Greenstone Mr Warden Price speaks hopefully, though not in such favorable terms as ho does of the Waimea. The population he estimates at 512 (of whom 25 are Chinese), showing a decrease of 83 persons. The revenue for the six months amounts to L 460 14s Cd, showing a decrease of LlOl 18s, and this too, notwithstanding an increase of L 47 10s in spirit licences. The falling-off was chiefly, if not wholly occasioned by the Hohonu Water Race Company, being unable to supply water to the miners on Duke's Terrace until about a month before Christmas. The whole of the men on the terrace were consequently thrown out of work, but the claimholders . stuck to the ground until the alterations in the Burning were completed, and they were rewarded for their constancy. The first washing-up on resuming, work was highly satisfactory, and there is now, says Mr Price, every prospect of the district maintaining the character of being the best sluicing ground in the County.
